Trailer #5: The Keeper's Musings

[INT. BRASS EAGLE TAVERN - NIGHT.  A fire burns low in a large fireplace.  THE KEEPER sits in a chair in front of the fireplace, swirling a glass of whiskey.  A large clock ticks above the fireplace as he speaks to someone unseen.]

KEEPER

Another day gone…just like the day before it.  And the day before that, and the day before that, but(sighing)...you know the drill, don’t you?  That’s how it always is.

[A moment of silence, he sips his whiskey, the clock keeps ticking.]

KEEPER

Where to next, though?  Not telling?  Oh well.

I can still guess, though…how about a beautiful white sand beach, with crystal-clear blue waters.  No, that can’t be it.  That’d be too nice .  How about…a city?  A market, where I can pick up the supplies that I so dearly need?  That’s probably not it, either. 

It’ll probably be somewhere nasty.

And you are silent as usual, I see.  That’s fine.  Wouldn’t expect anything different.  I’m going to bed soon, anyway.  But first…

[As if on cue, the clock begins chiming.  It’s midnight.]

KEEPER

(sardonic) There it is.  Midnight again. …Another day in paradise.  Let’s see what fresh hell tomorrow holds, shall we?

[The clock stops chiming, and the Eagle shrieks as the Tavern teleports away.]

NARRATOR

Introducing the Keeper, played by Connor Bushoven.

[EXT. A ROADSIDE CAMPSITE - NIGHT.  The embers of a fire smolder in a makeshift fire pit.  Night wind blows.]

ELLIS, as if writing a journal entry

Day 6 since I…(pausing, then changing what they were about to say)...since I…left…home.  

I passed the 100 mile mark today.  My feet are killing me, and I had a rock in my shoe for the last 10 miles…but that’s good progress, I think.  No sign of anyone else, which I guess is also a good thing? It means no one’s found me, at least.

I ran out of food yesterday, though.  I was only able to pack a little in such a hurry.  It’s been easy enough to find water, but I started to get hungry today.  I’ve been following a river for a while, too…but so far, no luck catching any fish.  I’m not even sure what to do if I did manage to catch one. I tried to eat a few snails, though.

They, uh…they weren’t very good.  Maybe I should’ve cooked them, but…I couldn’t get the fire hot enough.  The rain made everything so damp. (sighing) I miss regular meals.  

Maybe tomorrow I’ll find some village with an inn.  Someplace warm, without rats or wolves or whatever, with four walls and a real roof.  And…better people.  People who won’t know me.

(as if an afterthought) Oh, and a proper bed.  That’d be nice.
